You'll receive reminders before expiration. After expiry, there's a grace period (depending on the extension) during which you can still reactivate the domain. After that, it becomes available for general registration.

No. The displayed prices are annual prices for the domain registration including SSL. The DNS zone is billed transparently at €0.24 / month (incl. VAT). Only a few country extensions have a one-time setup fee for new registrations – this is clearly shown.
